  • Tom Stewart was just awarded a 50-metre penalty and he had a set shot from 45 metres out, straight in front but he hit the post.

Accuracy is now starting to hurt the Cats. They’ve kicked 5.10 to the Giants’ 11.5, and hit the post twice tonight. Max Holmes missed a very gettable set shot in the opening minutes of the game.

Brent Daniels is in tears. It looks like he’s suffered a hamstring injury. He’s been subbed out, with Nick Shipley subbed into the match.

Daniels was just warming into the match. He had 11 disposals, three clearances and four tackles.

It’s a growing injury list for the Giants, who made eight changes from last week’s side on the back of a five-day break.

I reckon this is the goal of the night. Tim Taranto crumbs a contest from a boundary throw-in in his side’s forward 50 and snaps a goal on his right boot, his second goal tonight.

The Giants lead by 38. They’re playing outstanding footy and the Cats look a bit battered and bruised. Joel Selwood is trying to lift his side and he’s just entered inside-50, with Esava Ratugolea taking a contested mark - his first mark tonight.

He comes in from 15 metres out and goals. It’s just Geelong’s second goal from a forward, the other coming from Hawkins. Their other three goals have come from Kolodjashnij, Blicavs and Henry.

    Cats 5.9 (39), Giants 11.5 (71)

Luke Dahlhaus is limping off the ground. We haven’t been able to identify the incident but he may have a sore ankle.

The physio has also been out to Gary Rohan, but he’s staying on the ground.

Jed Bews took an intercept mark in defensive 50, but a look down the ground from his point of view showed the Giants were manned up one-on-one against the Cats.

The Cats love to find that loose player and control the ball with kicks and marks, switching the play where possible and changing the lines.

But Bews had little option but to kick to a contest. The Giants have come well armed and are executing the plan, not only defensively but they’re also dominating the contested possessions.

Jack Henry has just marked inside-50 and goalled for the Cats. Henry could be one of a number of options up Chris Scott’s sleeve as he looks to swing some magnets.

    Cats 4.9 (33), Giants 10.5 (65)

The Giants are leading 21-10 in the contested possession count so far this term.

If the Cats were told to respond at half-time by Chris Scott, is the Giants who have lifted to another level in this third term.

The Giants now have a shot on goal after a block in a ruck contest inside forward 50. Toby Greene willl take the set shot... and he nails it. He’s got four!

    Cats 3.9 (27), Giants 10.5 (65)

Opportunistic goal from Toby Greene, who now has three majors for the Giants.

It’s looking dangerous for the Cats, who haven’t responded after half-time. The Giants are inside forward-50 again, and Callum Brown has his second!

This has gone from dangerous to ugly for the Cats!

    Cats 3.9 (27), Giants 9.5 (59)

The third term is underway but we haven’t see a hell of a lot of action, with the Giants defenders quelling Geelong’s entries.

However, Harry Himmelberg is now lining up for his second goal after taking a strong contested mark inside 50.

    He snaps, but misses.

    Cats 3.9 (27), Giants 7.5 (47)

    Team stats (Cats-Giants): Disposals 151-153, inside-50s 25-22, free kicks 12-6, stoppages 24-12, clearances 16-16, contested possessions 54-63, turnovers 30-29, marks 46-35, tackles 29-34, one percenters 13-21.

Disposals are even, as are inside-50s, but the Giants have won more contested possessions and have registered more one percenters than the Cats, showing how much tonight means to them.

They aso lead the tackle count by five and have evened the Cats in the clearances despite the overwhelming hitout count.
