Bolton Council leader David Greenhalgh will be laid to rest tomorrow

DAVID Greenhalgh will be laid to rest tomorrow morning as his funeral takes at Bolton Parish Church.

Cllr Greenhalgh’s died aged 53 on July 29, leaving residents across the town shocked and saddened.

Due to the expected attendance, the service will be relayed on speakers outside the church and streamed online.

The church will open at 9.30am and people are asked to be seated by 10:45am. The 11am service will be led by the Vicar of Bolton, Revd Canon Dr Chris Bracegirdle.

The cortege leaves Relph’s Funeralcare at 9.30am before reaching Dunscar War Memorial at 10am, then proceeding along Blackburn Road and Topp Way.

It will arrive at Victoria Square and pause in front of the Town Hall steps en-route to the parish church.

To ensure that the funeral can be conducted in a respectful manner, parking restrictions will also be in place, along with a small number of road closures.

From 8.30am on Friday, all on-street parking will be suspended on Churchgate and Church Bank.

From 9am, access to Churchgate and Church Bank from Silverwell Street will be restricted, only those invited to the funeral and who have been issued with a parking permit will be able to gain access.

Paley Street will also be closed to vehicles, but Princess Street will be unaffected by the funeral arrangements.

On Silverwell Street, 14 of the standard parking bays will be temporarily designated as disabled bays, to compensate for the loss of disabled parking in the area. These will be accessible to the public for the duration of the funeral service.

All parking restrictions and road closures will be lifted at 2pm.
