  • The rate of scoring has slowed own dramatically in the second quarter, with just one goal scored by the Bulldogs, compared to a combined eight from both teams in the first.

It’s still the Lions by six points halfway through the term, 5.4.34 to 4.4.28.

    Leading disposals: Macrae 17, McCluggage 14, Hunter 13, Bontempelli 12, Zorko 12

Payne is leaving the ground due to a nasty gash to his forehead after copping an accidental knee from teammate McCarthy in the marking contest.

And McCarthy is also leaving the ground with what looks like a knee issue from the same contest. Horrible luck for Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are back within a goal thanks to a converted Naughton set shot after the young Bulldog took a lovely contested mark.

It’s the Lions up 5.4.34 to 4.4.28 early in the second quarter.

Treloar is still yet to register a disposal early in the second quarter.

But he’s got his mates - Naughton (2), Liberatore (4) and Dunkley (5) have also been quiet for the Dogs.

The Lions lead by 12 points, 5.4.34 to 3.4.22.

The Lions look dangerous with their lead established in a scintillating patch of football midway through the quarter when they scored three goals from centre clearances.

Charlie Cameron kicked two of this three goals in that frantic patch with the Bulldogs midfield unwilling to defend the back of the square in numbers at centre bounces.

It’s going to be tough to beat the Lions on their home deck from here.

A scintillating first quarter comes to an end and the Lions find themselves up by 11 points, thanks largely to the electrifying Charlie Cameron who has three goals to his name - that match-up against Easton Wood is already looking worrisome for the Bulldogs.

The Lions are leading the disposals 99-93, clearances 13-10, tackles 17-15, inside 50s 18-16, scoring shots 8-7, free kicks 8-5 and hitouts 12-6.

Cameron is taking this semi-final storm and already has three goals to his name after 29 minutes.

The Lions are out to a 12-point lead, 5.3.33 to 3.3.21.

Back-to-back goals from McCarthy and Daniher have given the Lions the lead for the first time after 24 minutes, 3.3.21 to 2.3.15.

After three consecutive behinds, Brisbane finally get some reward for their increased forward pressure.

The Bulldogs are still yet to take a marks inside 50 from 12 forward entries.

The AFL match review has given the all-clear to Geelong but they did assess incidents involving Cats’ superstars Joel Selwood and Tom Hawkins.

The league released its explanation this evening and it’s repeated below:

    Incidents assessed:

    Hawkins

The incident between Geelong’s Tom Hawkins and GWS GIANTS’ Lachie Whitfield from the second quarter of Friday night’s Semi Final between the Geelong Cats and GWS GIANTS was assessed. Whitfield marks the ball in the GIANTS’ defensive 50 where he is met by Hawkins and high contact is made. It was the view of the MRO that there was insufficient forceful high contact to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

    Selwood

The incident between Geelong’s Joel Selwood and GWS GIANTS’ Josh Kelly from the third quarter of Friday night’s Semi Final between the Geelong Cats and GWS GIANTS was assessed. Selwood has possession of the ball on the half back flank for Geelong and is met by Kelly. Selwood raises his arm to fend and high contact occurs. It was the view of the MRO that there was insufficient forceful high contact to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

A couple of behinds from Bailey and Cockatoo trim the deficit to six points after 17 minutes, 1.2.8 to 2.2.14.

    Leading disposals: B.Smith 6, Fullarton 5, Macrae 5

Liberatore extends the Bulldogs’ lead after Cameron booted the Lions’ first goal.

What a start for the premiership Dog who already has two goals to go with three disposals and a clearance.

The Bulldogs are dominating the ground ball gets 16-7 after 14 minutes and they lead by eight points, 2.2.14 to 1.0.6.
