AFL 2021 LIVE updates Scott primes Cats to target May and Lever in first preliminary final
1 of 2
Cats star Jeremy Cameron was commentating the final minutes of the Bulldogsâ semi-final win last week on Twitch, tonight he is back doing what he does best.
Cameron has broken off the pack and kicked the opening goal of the match sliding a low kicking into the goals and pumping his fist.
Cats lead 6-1 with 14 mins to go in Q1.
The Demons couldnât have scripted the opening moments better as Tom McDonald knocked it down for Kossie Pickett who stepped and stab passed to Ben Brown for a mark inside 50m.
But Brownâs kick for goal hit the post.
Soon after, McDonald had a kick for goal which was smothered by the man on the mark.
Dees up 1-0 with 17 mins to go in Q1.

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin spoke to Channel Seven before the game...
How good is this? 61,000 expected tonight, with the week off last week and no doubt
they are itching to get stuck into it?
Great atmosphere, great occasion, looking forward to it and we are ready to go.
We know how important the midfield battle is going to become, a look back to round 23 with the momentum shifts, what will be key to find the edge?
You are right. You want the clearance and that will be important, the team that did that last time dominated. It gives you a chance to set up defence.
Geelong coach Chris Scott spoke to Channel Seven before the game...
Congratulations again on the preliminary final. This is your tent. Does it get any easier to navigate through what I assume is a hugely emotional week?
I do not think so. That has been not my experience anyway. There is a level of excitement that matches the anxiety and pressure. You certainly know you are alive.
We know Melbourneâs defence is amazing. Is it the controllable night? Take the game on sort of night? What is the plan?
To make them defend. No doubt about that. We do not play a really frantic style of game so we will not go too far away from that. We will put pressure on their defenders. We do not look at it as having to defend Lever and May in Salem we want to go after them.

Injured Geelong defender Tom Stewart spoke to Channel Seven before the game...
Unbelievable night to play football here in the west but it has been a big week for the club in leading to this preliminary final. How is the preparation and the build-up been for the group?
They have been really good. It is a picturesque night, few clouds now. Going to be a great night for football and the boys are very excited. Thankful for another opportunity to get into the prelim.
A lot of conversation this week, Dr Peter Larkins said you would have no chance of playing in a grand final should the result go your way tonight, your coach squashed that comment, we saw vision of you running during the week. Whereabouts are you with that injury? Are you a chance to play in two weeks time?
I cannot forecast too far into the future because the nature of the injury is tedious. I am on a shortened timeframe for the injury itself. I am going really well and I am running and kicking and low-level change of direction. All the markers I have hit so far are positive. A lot of things have to go right for me to get there to the game in two weeks time. Tonight is a big one. Iâm giving myself every opportunity.
It is all about ticking boxes.
Day by day. The old cliche.
Round 23, the kick after the siren with Max Gawn, but what is the key to getting the result your way tonight?
It is the same for every finalist, executing under pressure and the fundamentals. We have had some tight games with Melbourne as long as I can remember, 2018, Max had a shot and missed. It is a hard contest every time. Tonight is no different. Iâm excited to help out.

On a team trek through Kakadu National Park back in 2012, a group of Melbourne players winding their way up a rocky track heard a commotion in the scrub.
As they braced themselves for an animal to emerge, Jack Viney appeared, unshaken after bush-bashing his way up the hill in a straight line to catch up with the group.

Given he had signed with the club as a father-son recruit aged 16 and played with their VFL affiliate during that season, the Demons already knew they had a player who was unwilling to deviate.
