Brian Laundrie’s sister, Cassie Laundrie refused to confirm or deny her brother’s innocence. She said: “Did he kill Gabby? I don’t know.”

Hiker Dennis Davis, an engineer from Florida, said he believed he had spoken with Brian Laundrie on a road near the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina â€" close to the border with Tennessee. Audio of his 911 call was made public. He said the alleged Mr Laundrie was “talking wild” about having to get to California to see a girlfriend.

“There is no doubt in my mind I spoke to Brian Laundrie â€" none whatsoever,” he told the New York Post.

Police from the Moab City Police Department have been accused of covering up bodycam footage in which Gabby Petito tearfully claims that Mr Laundrie assaulted her.

The police department in Utah released two videos. The first was released on 16 September, less than a week after Ms Petito was reported missing. The second was released 14 days later, and only after a Grand County attorney accused the department of withholding the video from a second officer.

That footage contains Ms Petito admitting that Mr Laundrie had been hitting her.

More serious criminal charges against Ms Petito’s missing boyfriend Mr Laundrie are “extremely likely” if he’s found alive, the state attorney for Palm Beach County in Florida has claimed.

David Aronberg defended his office for not filing charges against Mr Laundrie, saying “prosecutors have a higher burden to prove cases beyond any reasonable doubt”.

Asked by News Nation Now why Mr Laundrie hadn’t been charged with a more serious crime at this point in the death of his 22-year-old travel blogger girlfriend, which has been ruled a homicide, Mr Aronberg added: “I think that’s coming.”

Brian Laundrie’s sister Cassie spoke out on Monday about her brother, saying she “didn’t know” if he had murdered his girlfriend Gabby Petito. She also claimed that their parents refuse to talk to her.

Ms Laundrie said she was “livid” at her parent’s lawyer Steve Bertolino, after he told the press on Friday that she had seen her brother twice since Ms Petito’s disappearance, on 1 and 6 September 1 and 6.

This was in spite of her previously telling ABC’s Good Morning America: “I haven’t been able to talk to him. I wish I could talk to him.”

“My kids are upset, you’re upsetting my neighbours, and all we want to do is let you guys know that we don’t know.”

The interview is set to air in two parts on Tuesday and Wednesday on CBS New York, the network said.

On Monday, a banner was flown over Brian Laundrie’s parents’ house that read “Justice 4 Gabby”.

One TikTok user, identified as Justin Shepherd, said that some of his followers came up with the idea of flying a banner with a message for Mr Laundrie’s parents.

Mr Shepherd said that as soon as the idea was floated by some followers, soon Cash App and Venmo requests started coming in to fund the project.

He said: “I wouldn’t say that I am the one who did this, it is my followers.”

He added: “In my opinion, it’s easy to share links and make some phone calls but it was a TikTok community, my followers got together and made this happen.”

The banner cost over $2,500, the TikToker said.

Speaking to protesters outside her Lakewood Ranch home on Monday, Cassie Laundrie also said that she hasn’t been able to speak with her family.

Her exchange with the protesters was captured by a TikTok user, @chroniclesofolivia.

She was seen in the video saying “I’m in the boat where I’m getting ignored by my family and thrown under the bus by my family’s attorney.”

Meanwhile, Steven Bertolino, the attorney representing the Laundrie family, told Fox News that “I do not represent Cassie Laundrie”. He added: “Cassie’s comments can only be attributed to the press twisting my words and hers, which were only given to clarify prior mischaracterisations by the press, with the hopes of further sensationalising this tragic story.”

Police from the Moab City Police Department have been accused of covering up bodycam footage which showed a tearful Gabby Petito telling officers she had been assaulted by Brian Laundrie.

The Utah police department released bodycam footage of a 12 August “domestic violence” incident between the couple from officer Daniel Robbins on 16 September.

But it was only after a former Grand County attorney accused them of withholding a second officer’s bodyworn footage that they released his footage 14 days later.

Officer Eric Pratt’s bodyworn camera footage cast a different light on the violent altercation between the couple, as Ms Petito told him she was struck on the face by Mr Laundrie during the fight.

Gabby Petito’s body has been formally identified and the cause of her death has been confirmed as “homicide”.

Authorities confirmed human remains found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National on 19 September belonged to Ms Petito.

In a statement, the FBI said an initial determination by Teton County Coroner Dr Brent Blue had found the 22-year-old was killed, but a cause of death has not yet been established.
