Two prison guards taken hostage at French jail

Two prison guards have been taken hostage at a jail in northwestern France.
France’s justice ministry revealed one of the guards had been injured in the right eye as it confirmed the incident in a statement.
The ministry said negotiations were underway to try to secure the release of the hostages at the jail in Conde-sur-Sarthe, about 155 miles (250km) west of Paris.
Security units at the jail have been mobilised and extra forces have been despatched to the prison, the statement said.
French broadcaster BFMTV reported the suspected hostage-taker was serving a long sentence for rape and murder.
